I need to get a spare set of strings - any recommendations?

As I play only once a week and am only about grade 1-2 standard, is it really worth getting something like Dominants? Or would pretty much anything be OK?
I have no idea what's on there at the moment - three of them are ones it came with and I can't remember what the other one is - it's been on there a few years.

dominants are fine, i dont use them but thats personal preference, though tbh at grade 1-2 and only a spare set id say dont bother.
i used astrea strings until about grade 4, theyre not particularly good, but at grades 1-2 it doesnt matter.

ideally, your spares should be the same as the strings on the violin now. do you know what sort they are?

To be honest, you'd be better putting the Dominant strings on the violin and keeping the old set as spare.

Having said that, strings always work best in sets, so if one breaks you would really be better off having a spare of the same string.

Lots of internet deals to be had out there, so see if you can find someone who could do you a discount for buying two sets of Dominant strings.

I know maya3 says it doesn't matter at Grade 1-2, but that's not strictly true. You'll make a much more pleasant (and bearable) sound with a decent set of strings, even on a cheap instrument.
