Trying to cross over some of the valuable tips I've picked up practicing piano to my guitar practice. Doesn't really apply though does it? Like hands separate piano practice before hands together, it's not something that easily lends itself to guitar. Certainly breaking difficult sections down into manageable chunks works ok.

So how do you guys practice? I guess this might apply to any stringed instrument.

Any constructive ideas gratefully recieved.

Manuel Barrueco is reputed to practise each hand separately (from memory knowing him!).

I would recommend for particular passages to practise hands separately, perhaps something with an unusual cross-string pattern for the right hand, or strange shifts for the left.

Something I find very helpful is the slow - slower - slower still - back to speed approach, eg play the chunk 4 times as described. Can be quite potent.
