Full Version: Fastest Violin Player In The West

Never mind Ernie and his 'fastest milk cart in the west', David Garrett has officially entered the record books with his playing of Flight of The Bumble Bee on the violin. I've not heard it myself, so can't comment on the quality of the individual notes, but I would imagine it would have been a bit of a blur. Apparently it was broadcast live on Blue Peter.

I caught it on iplayer. Wow it was fast. However, my fav ever version of Flight of the Bumblebee is that sung but the Banchieri Singers. It had to be see, and heard, to be believed. I did like David's response to the question how do you do that and he said 'practising slowly and for 22 years!' I thought it was wonderfully honest.

My brother was watching so I watched too! biggrin.gif the Guinness World Record people had to "check" every note...but if Blue Peter was live, as it was "back in my day" ( rolleyes.gif ) then it only took them about 3 minutes to give it the OK! It was something like 1 min 6 seconds and sounded pretty fast to me.

I watched it via iPlayer this afternoon and yes, I liked his repsonse to that question. I don't think too many lay persons realise just how long it takes to perfect something like that.

Dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, lets hope it portrayed the fact that classical musicians can be just as cool and down-to-earth as pop stars.
