What an interesting thing although it looks quite basic.

The cellists would probably find it easiest to play because I'd probably want to tuck it under my chin

Well, I've got a rebec, which makes a similar noise...
Mine has gut strings, so I suppose the sound would be clearer on one of those if they have metal strings... But the tone can be quite harsh!

Great fun to play though: feels much more authentic if you're playing early music etc. and would attract attention if busking!
