Full Version: Wolf Notes

I have a 'cello and a bass, with wolf notes that are at their worst at corresponding positions on the same string. I would like to know whether this is a common position for wolf notes or whether they are randomly distributed. If you have an instrument with a wolf note, please will you indicate where it is.

I shall make my entry later, so that I don't influence the first contributor.

I can't see how to rectify the poll title, which should be, "Is there a pattern to wolf notes?"

In theory they can occur anywhere, but an F on the cello tends to be quite common.

Yip, mine's on the F.

Yep there seem to be common notes, on violin D flat is very common, as is C, worst in high positions on the lower 2 strings. Anyone know why some notes are more likely to have wolf tones than others?

More votes would help. There is a pattern, but four data points are not statistically significant.
