Um....surely this is an instance in which both crossposting and bumping are not only desirable but neccessary?

As indeed there is, for exceptionally good reason. Have you come across the malicious post yet, YAP? I did this morning, and it's incredibly unpleasant - if bumping means that fewer people see it, it can only be a good thing.

True, but sadly when you grow up you will see 'rules' take precedence over common sense even if the latter is more satisfactory.

I can't believe after 2 years of my physics class I didn't spot that 
YAP - I can't see any mods around to enforce the rules, so the next best thing is to try and stop people seeing it by accident.

Rather than posting "bump", I engaged other readers in discussion and hence kept this thread at the top of viva piano without breaking the rules. The discussion itself was somewhat incidental; I have no intention of reporting people to the censors, it was merely some discourse which I knew would draw response and hence keep this thread at the top. Cunning, isn't it?

Theres only 5 forums not now affected. I doubt we can keep 12 separate discussions going on this subject.

True, but flood control kicks in. I'd then technically also be breaking the cross-posting rules by posting my comments in several threads instead of just one - the onus isn't on just the thread starter, but the reader to only post in one examplar of each thread....
