hi. i'm looking to compose a piece in a minor key, can anyone suggest one. It can't be too hard - ie ruling out E flat minor! - Thanks,
David.

I usually choose D minor. I think it's known as one of the more nostalgic keys, if that makes sense. smile.gif

Edit: It is my favourite key though, that's probably why I choose it! What are you composing?

G minor is one of my favourite keys.

What sort of composition are you creating?

Depends what you are intending to create; personally I like F minor.

D Minor is my favourite too!

Depends on what instrument I would say. It is somewhat of an issue on strings because the key partly decides how many open strings you have which changes the sonority lots.

i seem to choose A minor (no key sigiture except rasied 7th G sharp) or at the moment doing one in G minor which isnt too hard. what sort of thing you doing?

Chances are if its a romantic piece you'll be wanting to modulate quite a bit anyway. I'd say choose a key that sounds right. it doesn't matter whether its a difficult key to play in. Also you should bare in mind that certain keys have been traditionally asociated with different things for example E major is meant to represent heaven (I know you want a minor key but it was the only example i could think of).
