Hi, I'm looking for a little advice...
Can someone please explain to me how to work out intervals. I'm sitting my grade 5 theory in June but I just cannot seem to get the hang of intervals.
I am always getting mixed up between minor and diminished ones.
Any help would be great biggrin.gif
Thanks

Have a look at this old thread - several bits of advice there...

Take the major scale as a starting point. Always count from the lower note (I think you knew that). If the higher note is in that major scale then the interval is major except for the 4th, 5th and octave which are perfect.

A semitone smaller than major is minor.
A semitone smaller than perfect or minor is diminished.
A semitone bigger than major or perfect is augmented.

Hi, I got around this very question by buying a book called, "Take Five" by Christopher Dunn.
Hope it helps.
