Hi Fiona
I'm still not sure which ones I'm going to do. I've played them all through and the ones that I like best are:
A1 Polanaise
A2 Divertimento
B1 Prelude no 28
B3 Arabesque
C2 Freeway
I'll probably go for the A2 and C2 but I'm not sure about the B section yet.
On the face of it the pieces appear to be a bit technically easier than the previous syllabus but I think there's probably more emphasis on expression in a lot of the pieces.
Anyway have fun.

Well, I've looked over the pieces and they don't look bad actually.
Must admit though, I love Polonaise ! I can't stop playing it.
Will let you know when I have had a proper tinkle.

I don't remember the piano exam. I remember you being stressed with your clarinet exam.

The Allegro from the Haydn Sonata in G; Watchman's song and Toccatina. So only one the same... I like the Grieg but I think that there's much more work in doing that than in the others.

Thanks

. I'm getting to the stage of closeness to the exam where I attempt to convince myself that it doesn't matter what mark I get but it's not working! We shall see how it goes on the day...

Well, I've decide to play Polonaise, Prelude and not sure for group C
I absolutley love the Prelude ! I can't wait to be able to play it properly !
It sounds sad, I know but I have never taken such a likeness to exam pieces like this before. I'm totally in love with the first 2 pieces !

What do you think of them ?

Hi Fiona
Good choice. The Prelude is really nice. I've played it a few times really really slowly. I notice that it is supposed to be played Allegretto but it sounds nice very slow.
I always find its quite difficult to decide which one to do in the C group. I might get the CD and see what the alternative pieces are. Have you made up your mind yet about the C piece?

Hi Caroline.
No I haven't decided as yet. They aren't very nice !
I've just bought the book for C alternatives - Kabalevsky 30 childrens pieces ?
The lady at the music shop said that a lot of people have been choosing this piece as they don't like the group C choice either !
How about you ?

I bought that book to get a decent piece from this year's grade 4 C list too. The selection of pieces to go in the book for Grade 4 list C seems to be rather unfortunate! I think that the Kabalevsky book is quite good though, there are quite a few good pieces in it of varying difficulties: some are good sight-reading practise and others look like they'd be quite good fun to work on.

Great, I already have the book because I was already playing the Toccatina piece. I hadn't noticed though that an alternative piece was listed for this years C section.
What's the March like, have you played it? As AnotherPianist says, there's some other quite nice pieces in the book.

Well, I have had a tinkle of the first line and I'm not convinced !
I'm not sure about the sound of it or I'm playing it completely wrong.
I shall have another go later this evening. The lady did say that I could take it back if it wasn't any good.

I really don't like this piece. It sounds as she was tone deaf when it was written !
It's the mix of sharps and flats I think and most of it sounding out of tune.
Apart from that, it's not too bad !

I know what you mean - none of them are outstanding.
What about Freeway - do you like that one?
I've decided to order the CD anyway, so I'll check out the other 2 alternative pieces.

I will have a look at that. I'm not very good playing jazzy pieces.
