Was playing one of pam wedgewoods really easy jazz peieces when i heard a rather loud twang... so loud i screamed and nearly fell backwards of the stool.... Atleast its not hard to remember which note it was...the ivory on the key also cracked.

Any ideas how much this could cost to get it restrung, just the one string. Im hoping to get new piano in a few years and i really don't want the whole thing restrung as i assume that will be rather costly...

But has this happened to anyone else?

My dad has snapped one of the strings on my piano when he tried to tune it himself... he's too embarassed to get it fixed so I have a fairly out of tune piano now sad.gif

I have no idea how much it would cost, (although i doubt it's extortionate - dont quote me on that unsure.gif ) but our grand piano at church had a string snap; the bottom F string broke after my dad hit it too hard rolleyes.gif not nice...
Dont think it's something that's extremely rare, though.

My mum bought an old piano recently that was very out of tune and she has had a string snap.... it was only about £5 smile.gif That was for a short treble string though, the further down you go, the longer, thicker and.............. more expensive they are ph34r.gif biggrin.gif

No need to restring the whole piano, just replace the one broken string. Any tuner would do this for you and it doesn't cost a huge amount - you could ask how much when you ring to book them. Were you really going for it - cracked ivory as well - sounds a bit extreme!?

I think the ivory may already have been cracked, i wasn't really playing loud atall, and its not like id need to press that hard, it was a B two octaves above middle C, so press hard doesnt make two much difference there.

Ah well.
