Well I started the grade 6 study for the first time tonight and although I know that I have an awful lot to learn I am full of enthusiasm. I bought the ABRSM workbook and we worked on just one question, out of that question we worked on trills, turns, cadences, chords, keys and 7's - I am not sure how much has sunk in yet but I reckon that I am going to have a great time learning it all, and so is my teacher teaching me!

That's brilliant! I hope that you really enjoy learning the grade 6 things, your enthusiasm speaks volumes. smile.gif I've been contemplating having a look at some of it myself but think I might wait until the results are back. (I'm a bit of a coward with things like that!)

Look forward to hearing how you get on! Have you got a timescale for when you hope to take it?

I'm not going to work directly on Grade 6 at the moment but I'm going to continue with composition and do some background reading.

Hi Miss Ross

Yes I am enjoying learning the Grade 6 things although some of it is a little beyond me at the moment! but then I think when I started any of the other grades I felt the same. I work through the papers using text book material initially and then get to the point where I can do the papers without the support.

I started Grade 5 before I got the results from Grade 4 and I just feel by continuing with the theory and not having a lapse keeps my brain from losing what I have already learnt.

Look forward to hearing that you have started once you get your results.

I got the Music Theory in Practice book for G6 the other day. I'm not planning to start work on it just yet, I just wanted to see what was covered and whether I would enjoy doing or not as I know it's a lot different to G5. I've had a look through the book, and although it all looks quite complicated, I think I will enjoy unravelling it. So I do plan to make a start on it eventually but not just yet.

How are you getting on with it, ET? smile.gif

Hi Skylark

Glad to hear that you have gone out and bought the Gade 6 Music and Theory Practise book, haven't actually bought this myself as I found that I didn't really use these in Grades 1 - 5 yet I bought for all of them. I have the Grade 6 ABRSM theory workbook which gives examples of questions in the exam. We worked on Question 4 one week which was fine whilst I was with my teacher, not so good when I attempted another Qestion 4 on my own. I bought Revised Practise in Music Theory by Josephine Koh and have been working on Harmony basics and techniques, I am enjoying this. However, my teacher set me Question 1A in the ABRSM workbook, and I am afraid that I have forgotten what I am supposed to do, so I will have to wait until tomorrow evening. in the meantime I am ploughing through the Josephine Koh book. Strange how suddenly I am realising why we have learnt scales and intervals as I watch certain triads change from major to minor. I can't wait until it all makes real sense.

I have ordered Harmony in Practise text book and the answer book from Amazon and hoping that this will make life easier for me.

Does anone know of a CD for Grade 6 theory where they talk you through things?

Well 4 weeks gone, only 2 more weeks until we get our Grade 5 results.
