Hi
I'm trying to learn the piano at the moment and practise on my Yamaha digital piano. The other day I was mucking about trying to see what it could do and I pressed one of the demo pieces which I've completely fallen in love with. It's Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin but I can only find sheet music for piano (I think it was originally intended for piano).

Does anyone know if sheet music for this piece is available for the violin and what sort of grade it would be (I'm sort of Grade 3/4 standard at the moment). I'd love to have a go at it on the violin to see what it sounds like! Many thanks.

There's a version on 8notes.com for violin that you can print for free.

Mind you - I didn't much like their version of 'The Entertainer' for clarinet though.

If you put 'maple leaf rag violin' in Google, you get quite a few results - places to buy or download.

8notes.com has a version: http://www.8notes.com/scores/3053.asp?ftype=gif
(That gif version is free, you can get a pdf version if you subscribe)

biggrin.gif I really like that one too. I used to play a lot of Joplin on the piano and it would be fun to play on the violin.... especially if I could memorise it (in my dreams probably (I have a very bad memory laugh.gif ))

The version in the viola equivalent of this book is on the current Grade 4 syllabus. I bought the viola version and am having fun playing through it (badly it has to be said!).

Enjoy.

Maple Leaf Rag is in a book 'Ragtime Favorites' Scott Joplin published by Fentone Music. It includes a CD and as well as the sheet music it has a piano accompaniment. Its really good, I got this book as one of the alternative pieces for grade 4 violin 'The Chrysanthemum' is in it.
all ears
I second amati's recommendation - son played on of the pieces in that book for Grade 5 violin (if I remember correctly), and had a lot of fun with the other tunes in the book...which was snatched out of his hands pretty often by his then-teacher's other students!
