... I mean because they cost so much I suppose laugh.gif

Anyway, my A string has just started to unwind at the nut!!!!! ohmy.gif It looks like the winding has broken and is sticking up (less than a milimetre though) but it feels rough to my finger. So I need a new string sad.gif

However I bought an E string Eudoxa (still trying to silence the buzz) but what a lovely sound it makes wub.gif It's smooth and silky and not the slightest bit harsh.

My intention was to replace the set of Evah Pirazzis I'm using with Obligatos but it's GBP44 for a whole set!!!!

Martha's worth every penny of course ( wub.gif ) but I'll have to wait until after she's been back to see the Doctor (luthier) about the buzz...... it's still there and still driving me crazy although it's slightly less due to the things I've tried. It's definitely due to her hugely resonating body.... oh well.. just have to see what the violin-doc says...

Why not order from the US, and take advantage of the weak dollar? I have found Quinn Violins to be very reliable. Recently I have been getting evah's recently for about £28 a set (i buy them 3-4 sets at a time to economise on postage charges: we get through a lot!). Still a worthwhile saving to buy single sets, unless you're unlucky with VAT/customs.

Hey Lottie,

If you're looking for obligatos, stringmail.co.uk have them for 39 for a set and you can buy individual strings too . They post free to anywhere in Europe and I've always found their service to be excellent (only about two days to France).

So have I, but according to their website "Pirastro articles not available for European Union customers, in accordance with E.U. law". Do they send them to EU customers anyway?

Perhaps they do ...

Hi
Re: Rosfrog's suggestion agree.gif - I ordered a set of Obligatos with gold plated E string from them and they arrived 24 hours later. Not sure about ordering from the States, what with postage to UK and custom charges - which I found out can be very expensive!

They're really reliable, aren't they! I use them whenever my luthier is out of whatever brand of string I'm currently favouring (I'm a total string tart... ph34r.gif )

They do send Pirastro to the UK, no problem. And in 5 years of buying strings from the USA, I've never been stung for import costs (actually as a good citizen, I wouldn't mind paying my dues, but the Royal Mail admin charges are what really sting!).

Maybe they don't know that the UK is in the EU?

That sounds entirely plausible. wink.gif

Have you made sure your E fine tuner isn't loose? If it's on the loose side you'll need to do some fiddling about with the E peg in order to keep the fine tuner relatively tight but with a little room for manouvre; your buzz may then miraculously disappear. Or could one of the legs on the chin rest be a little loose? Or have you tried all that? blink.gif
