I was wondering if you could suggest to me some violin music, around grade 6 sort of standard...
I've been playing for like 6 months but the only music i've ever owned in those 6 months, is the grade 4 violin book... which i'm SO bored of, and it's a little easy... i want a challenge =] I'm moving onto grade 5 or 6 in a few weeks so i'm looking for music around that sort of level - other than the ABRSM books.
Also... where could i buy it from? blush.gif The 1 place i have bought my music for my other instruments from for the last like 8 years only sells woodwind and brass music... (tut tut!)

6 months? It usually still sounds like a cat being strangled by then, O Scarily Musically Talented Person!
I could try converting you to the world of folk music... The tunes are as hard as the speed you play them at, and the amount of ornamentation you put in.

Chack out the Grade 6 syllabus (and a fair amount of Bach is Grade 6 standard) - Fuller Music are very quick at delivering, I can recommend them
Morgan's Munchkin
Tchaikovsky's Barcarrole is really nice. It's just been taken off the grade 5 list but is still a lovely piece. The old grade 5 book has got some really nice pieces actually.

And yes - I'm jealous...I've played violin for 8 years and am only taking (failing) grade 5!

Thanks - i'll get looking at the syllabus biggrin.gif And well, i'm not sure you could convert me to folk as i LOVE classical music - but i'd sure love to try out some folk tunes!
And the only reason i progressed quickly is cause i practise loads and have a great teacher laugh.gif I'm sure you're way ahead of me =]

I've been noodling on and off for the last year with Bach's Double violin concerto in Dminor and my teacher mentioned recently it was about Grade 6. I love it - it's been one of my favourite pieces for years.

Ooh - forgot that one!
That is a great piece: a friend of mine started doing it and asked my in to accompany her...
So long as you can find a decent partner - your teacher sounds like a good accompanier! - it'll be great!

You can try the Suzuki violin books...book 4 onwards is a good place to start.

I found this link ages ago on another thread, it has a list of the instruments and the grades of certain pieces

Can you play in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 5th position? A good thing to do is to play everything in a certain position, I'm working on my 4th position and my teacher has got me to play Irish fiddling tunes in that position and I've been working on a lot of violin technique books, some of them have catchy tunes, which is good fun!

Dvorak Sonatina is very attractive.
