Hi,

I have been asked to accompany a student for Cello exam (ABRSM). However, this is something totally new to me. May i know if the level of performance of the piano accompaniment is impt to the result for the cello candidate???

How is the whole exam conducted?

Cheers

The accompanist is allowed to be in the exam room only for the pieces requiring accompaniment.

The piano accompaniment is rather straightforward for the lower grades, and gets tougher for higher grades. For Grade 8 and beyond, it would be better to find a professional accompanist.

What grade is that cello student doing? The examiner will not judge the quality of the accompaniment; however, the cellist's performance may be ruined if the accompanist is not competent.
