I'm playing Allegro from the A set, and Feelin' Good from the C set, and no idea what from the B set!

Hi Nat

I haven't started my Grade 6 pieces yet as I still have quite alot of other stuff still in progress. I think though that my teacher will probably start me off on the Chopin prelude, though not necessarily with a view to doing it in the exam. She also mentioned Feelin' Good biggrin.gif .

Scale are going ok, I have been learning the Grade 6 scales for a year now so I just need to start speeding them up. Although I'm not very good a remembering to practise the stacatto scales, so have decided to prioritise those this week.

I'm doing the Allegro, Vals Poetico and Lavdender's Kind Of Blue. I'm also learning Feelin' Good but I'm not planning to do that in the exam, but I may use it for A Level performance.

I really love Lavender's Kind Of Blue due to the rubato direction. Once you know the piece well you can really show lots of expression and feeling when playing. I'm doing the exam next June/July.

Happy Playing!

2 pages is pretty good going though.

Well Nat, for B you could do the Impromptu since it's Andante tranquillo and at 46 dotted crotchets per minute, I think it'll suit you just fine.

For A, it's either Allegro or big octave stretches on Corant, unless you prefer a slow piece like the Andante, but to work out the rhythm is a headache esp. with the trills, even for piano teachers! blink.gif

my B piece is Vals Poetico, another reasonably quick one.argh!

I have chosen my A piece for Grade 8( out of point a litte tongue.gif ). I chose Bach...the allemande....terribly slow! but a nice relaxing one to start of with. Well....I am quite the impatient type so I love those fast and lively pieces. Scarlatti looks good but my teacher said too many people will be choosing them(2 of my friends did..secretly I think the examiner might compare cause I am the best pianist among my friends) Shostakovich can't do for me cause my hands aren't big enough to stretch a 10th. The furhest I could go is 9th. What do you expect? I am only 14. Whatever.....I am thinking for Mozart or C.P.E Bach( another Bach lol) for my B and most probably C3(Schumann's Intermezzo which is of couse to quote the editor ...metronome marks are notoriously unreliable, and that for the Intermezzo (*crochet*=116 seems imposibbly fast....)LOL!!!
By the way...anyone doing Grade 8?

worked through the next 2 pages of Allegro last lesson, and speeded up the 1st 2 pages!help!lol

Yes. I chose Sonata in D, Allegro moderato, and I don't know what I'm doing for List C (List C 4 Grade 8 always seems so hard!)

Are you doing hands seperately or together?
saxlover
hands together
Lucia
Hey that's really good. I have been working on a Bach Two Part Invention for months now and I've only just managed to do hands together on the last section. Still I suppose if I keep plodding away I will get there eventually.

Which one and is it good? I'm looking for some Bach recommendations for after my exam!
Lucia
It's No 14 and it has been really good fun learning it. It is my first piece of Bach, on the piano, that I've learnt and so has been completely different to other music I have been playing. I spent a lot of time learning hands seperately and did not attempt to put hands together until both hands were really fluent, although during lessons I would play one hand and my teacher would play the other hand. That was really good test to see if I new the notes really well. At the moment I am focusing on two bars at a time so I should eventually be able to pick up the piece at any point in the music. The whole piece is really coming together now and I am starting to speed it up so I am really pleased with it.

That sounds like an excellent and very diligent way of learning the piece; I'm sure that when it's finished it'll be a very secure, polished and well played. I'll have a listen to it after my exam since it's recommended. I've done numbers one and four (which have been on the grade 4 & 5 syllabuses respectively in the past).
