Hi 'Toby, welcome to the forums. Don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong.

As far as your queries go, I can't really give you suggestions as I don't know any guitar repertoire.

But have a search for discussions on practise routines and on dealing with nerves - they are topics dear to everyone's hearts.

And best of luck

Cheers

The FAQ at the top of this forum has some tips on nerves too.

'Toby, they will. People are helpful like that.

Just they might not be online this very minute, so you may have to wait a couple of days for definite answers. Just keep checking back from time to time, and in the mean time, have a good look round the forums biggrin.gif

Hi Toby

Are you having regular lessons? Lessons can be a real motivator and setting targets with a teacher can help you keep on track. I can suggest the following collections :

First Repertoire for Solo Guitar, Book 1
The Barouqe Book and The Classical Book (both Chanterelle)
Divestissements pur Guitare
Solo Now! 2 and or 3

30 mins of regular daily practice is about the average for this stage of learning.

Best wishes and keep on practising. The guitar sounds great and is a real joy to learn and master

Please, please don't give up. I don't know your age or background but I gave up the guitar when I was a teenager and have resumed playing again in the last 2 years when I was 34 yrs old. It's one of the best things I've done in my adult life (and no, I don't think my life is that sad!). My biggest regret is that I didn't persevere with the guitar because if I did, I'd be a far better player and no doubt a better person too!

I agree with MFort, have lessons. If you don't have a teacher, find a teacher that you respect and admire. It may take a few trial lessons but do try to find a teacher that inspires you. If you do have a teacher now, be honest with them and tell them how you're feeling. They should help motivate you.

I really do hope that things work out for you and you get back on track.

Good luck.

Somewhere in the FAQs here (under Frequently Asked Music-Related Forum Questions).

Hi Toby

Try the book 'pumping nylon' - great studies, and good ideas for practice routines.

Also have a look on the Icelandic Guitar School site - lots of rep, well fingered, and graded according to ability. And best of all, all free!
