I've just realised...I got my first violin 8 years ago, on the Friday of October half term, when I was eight - I don't know what the date was, but it's almost my 8 year anniversary of owning a violin! biggrin.gif

My first one was a half size Zeller in a navy case with velvet inside including velvet cloth to go over the violin - which I felt was very posh! It came from Alan Gregory's in Manchester, and also gradually got covered in star stickers etc to show where to put my fingers! tongue.gif

What were other people's first violins/other instruments like and when did you get them?

Awwww CONGRATULATIONS on your violiniversary!!!! party1.gif laugh.gif

I bought my first violin in September 2006 so I've just passed my first violiniversary!!!

It was a full size Zeller in a rectangular case (which I thought looked very professional because it has spaces for TWO bows!!!) and it came from The Violin Shop in Glasgow biggrin.gif

The neck was too thick for me so I changed it for a Gliga Gama 7/8 size in January this year. Now I'd like to go back to a full size wink.gif

LOL I now have two bows and feel a right pro, even if one is purple, and the non-purple posh one has to go in the same slot every time because it's too long for the other!

Some cases have space for FOUR bows - imagine! ohmy.gif

Congratulations! party1.gif

The very first violin I played was a Skylark which belonged to the junior school. There was a cupboard in the old pre-fab classroom where violin was taught (maybe because the pre-fab was a loooong way away from the main school) tongue.gif that had half a dozen or so violins in it , half and three-quarter size I would think.
I would imagine mine was a 3/4 size and there was a tiny lump of rosin in the end compartment.
Such a long time ago. blush.gif

My current violin and I are only on our 7 week anniversary, it's a Zeller I bought second hand from ebay for £70, a total bargain as both my teachers are very surprised at it's decent tone. It is very loud though. ohmy.gif It may only be a basic fiddle but we've bonded. tongue.gif

I am going to be unfaithful though as I'm going to see a dealer next week to try some (hopefully) better violins.
It's all rather exciting. biggrin.gif

Many congratulations on your violiniversay!!! party1.gif

My first violin was a Skylark and after 12 years together, unfortunately it gave up the ghost last week. I went to a fine violin shop and treated myself to the only violin that was in my price range, it's a 1911 French violin by Jean Renard. Apparently Renard is French for fox, so I've named it Foxy. I'm trying to get used to playing a violin that is of much higher quality and treating Foxy to a new case (great find on ebay) and a bow (still waiting for this to turn up).

Before I got Foxy, I'd also bought a violin off ebay - apparently it's an 1890 mass produced German violin and I used the bits from my Skylark to fit onto it. It's playable, so I'm using it as a spare to Foxy and it's called Wolfie (short for Wolfgang) smile.gif
