I've been reading up on how to make holding the violin more comfortable and prevent irritation of the neck, and apparently chamois cloths are good to use because of their unslippery quality and they prevent skin irritation. - I was wandering if anyone knows where i can get hold of these chamois cloths? - or maybe chamois chinrest covers?

Well a chamois cloth will be easy to find at any garage or Halfords or somewhere like that - you use them for shining your car after you wash it. It's called 'shammy' rather than 'sham-wah' - oh, and you do get synthetic ones, I imagine you'd want to make sure you got a real one (leather) for comfort.

I would be surprised if music shops don't sell something just right for your purpose, which you might be able to buy online. A car chamois might be too thick for your needs - some clarinet pullthroughs are synthetic chamois, and I think they are thinner than you would get for car cleaning.

Not sure where the good strings shops are, but someone will know!

A car chamois is fine. They aren't that thick these days!

Don't use the entire chamois in one go though. Cut it into smaller sections, according to how much you need covering the chinrest etc. Each piece won't last forever - they gradually get soiled with the oils from your own skin and eventually get quite pongy . Since you can't wash them - chamois goes hard after it's been in water a dries out again - you'll need to throw it away and use a new piece.

I got mine in my local Asda - I've also seen them in Tesco, and probably most large supermarkets have them. Either in the window-cleaning section or the car one.
