Sorry to post 2 topics in such a short amount of time but

In one of my pieces there's a part where *hmmm how to explain this*
2 semiquaver notes
a 5th apart
where you have the same finger needed in the same position on both strings (in this case the D and A strings)
so like playing D then G, and it repeats going down a semitone each time

Above the notes it's got the finger to use followed by =
Does this mean to use the same finger on both strings?
Cause I don't see any other way to play it

Sorry for the confusing explaination!

It might - and I bow to more experienced strings players - mean that you keep your finger pressed down covering the two strings at the same time.......if that makes sense......playing D on the A string using your third finger and holding the finger down on the D string at the same time you will be able to play a G.....so you can play D and G in quick succession because your finger is at both notes

thanks, that's what i thought too biggrin.gif
I'll be learning that part of the piece in my lesson next week but i really wanted to figure out how to do it now so i can play the whole piece through.

That's what it sounds like to me, though I'm a bit tired and twisting my brain in knots trying to imagine it from the description wacko.gif

Yes, it means you place your finger on two strings. Is the piece A1 grade 4? I was teaching this earlier today! You put your 3rd finger on the D & A strings to make playing the consecutive G & D and 2nd finger F# & C# easier by not moving the same finger back and forward from one string to the other. Hope this make sense - I'm barely awake!

Yup it's A1 of grade 4! I really like that piece.
Thanks for the explaination, it did make sense!
