It's looking a bit...boring.

Any suggestions anyone?

Ok!! What do you think about Jazz Oboe?
skylark
I've been thinking today about the jazz band for next year's Leeds concert and thinking I must remember to ask Barry about it tomorrow smile.gif

Perhaps we could hear some jazz oboe at the concert wink.gif

There is Microjazz for Oboe and Jazzed up, so there must be a feeling somewhere that it is a suitable instrument to play jazzier pieces on. Perhaps something from The Real Book or Maiden Voyage could appear as a bit of an experiment laugh.gif

You would like another jazz and/or swing group?

I'll see what I can do. smile.gif

Well, jazz oboe...I did try it...but it didn't sound...exactly right. And there just isn't the music. For beginners yes. I do have some Scott Joplin at the moment though...

Are you playing the Scott Joplin? Which ones are they?

Jamey Abersold Maiden Voyage is supposed to be for any instrument, my dayghter usually uses it for Sax, it could be theoretically used for Oboe.

Are you going to Leeds? What about a duet?

Jazz viola?

I'm sure there was a jazz viola thread somewhere, or at least a succession of posts on jazz viola. May be worth doing a search here, and in GMF. smile.gif

Janexxx and I did a jazz workshop day with Violinia (some time ago now) in which my viola featured. Violin also works well. FUN!

If you want to hear some jazz viola try listening to Basquiat Strings, a 6-piece British, contemporary jazz group consisting of 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass plus percussion. Their latest CD was nominated for the Mercury awards. Website is www.basquiatstrings.co.uk
