Dear Piano teachers...

I am practicing my scales for the piano test 8th grade, but there is something in the syllabus that I don't understand they write:

Major and minor scales, legato or staccato etc..
Hands separately and together an octave apart (??)

What is meant by hands separately and octave apart? is it that I have to play in 1 hand 2 notes and the time an octave apart or is it 1 hand playing 1 note at the time...

it may sound silly but the "separate" is confusing here when it is and octave apart???

Any help? many thanks

Maya

Hands separately is one hand at a time playing one note at a time.
The 'one octave apart' bit refers to hands together only.

OK

Hands together one octave apart is self explanatory, but hands seperately is JUST the one-hand component (left or right) of a hands together scale - only one note per hand.

That's really badly explained, sorry blink.gif

Hello, welcome to the forums smile.gif

The octave apart bit only regards the hands together scales, so you play the scale in the left hand an octave below the right hand. Hands separately just means you only play the scale with either the left or the right hand smile.gif
