Full Version: Repertoire To Bring To Uni

Hey, I'm starting uni in September and was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on any new trumpet repertoire that might be good to have a go at...

I did my grade 8 3 years ago - and have looked at all the usuals, Haydn/Hummel/Neruda trumpet concerti, plus the Arutunian trumpet concerto - I've looked at some pieces by malcolm arnold, weber's variations and a few others I can't really remember off hand now!

So are there any trumpet pieces/concerti that fit around the same ability, that would be good to bring to my new teacher at uni?
I'm going to ask my trumpet teacher as well, when I next see him which will be aaaagess, so if anyone can point me in any direction I'd be really grateful!

Thanks smile.gif

The Hindemith Trumpet Sonata (with piano) is one of his best.

Do take some music along, but to be quite honest don't worry if you haven't got a clue. I was told by my teacher that when you get to uni your tutor will say you need this this and this and that's what we'll work on. Could be a bit heavy on the wallet but it's all for the thing we love!

EDIT: What uni are you going to?

Take a few things that you can play so that when you go to your first lesson your teacher can hear you play and get an idea etc. It's likely that they will then discuss repertoire ideas with you, so you don't need to worry about taking masses of stuff. Unless you want to of course.

How about:
The Flor Peters sonata
Oskar Bohme's Russian Dance
Bohme Trumpet Concerto
Vivaldi Double - you will need a friend to play it with you.
And there's always the pieces at the back of the Arban!
Also - check out the diploma suggestions for the various exam boards - there is plenty of good music out there!
