Anyway... here goes..
The examiner was pretty. She appeared to be in her 30's and wearing a black and white floral print dress. Of course only later I realised she towered over me by... err.. I only reached to her chest level.
Anyway, the first piece was ok in the first page although I didn't realise it at all, but I had started playing 2 beats ahead of where I was supposed to and fortunately I didn't realise it at that time, or I might have panicked. But we both made it sound correct because my teacher skipped the two beats. But unfortunately I had an bit of an untidy moment in the second page and that caused a slight hitch in the music and we stopped for a second before continuing again from there. Still, teacher said that it shouldn't fail. She said that normally people fail out of bad intonation more than anything else.
The second piece went alright. A bit out of tune in some areas, a bit untidy on the string changes, but on the whole it went reasonably well.
The third piece was the best so far, except for tiny errors and not being really able to sustain the long note at the end without slightly stopping my bowing.
The scales were a nightmare. I'll be lucky to scrape a pass here.
Then the sight-reading... despite what everyone said they got (keys like F major and so on), I got Ab major to my horror. And it ended in F minor which gave me a bit of a surprise. Anyway, although it was a gigue, I played it steadily through. Made the 3rd position notes up as I went (at one point no doubt it became A major
Then my favourite part, the aural tests. I can't believe how much I've progressed in AB exams to be looking forward to aurals
So that was how the exam went. And i have to wait a bit longer than my students for my results because the examiner doesn't leave until the end of August. In fact I'll get mine the same time as my last student who's taking hers on the 20th of August. So we'll collect them first week of September.
Has anyone else taken exams this week?
