Hello,
I am currently learning trumpet (by self) and can play grade 3 pieces without too much difficulty. However, I really struggle to get the notes above D2 to come out with any decent quality. Im assuming its an embochure problem more than anything else.
Can anyone give me some practice tips that may help solve this please?

If possible try and get hold of a book called 'How Brass Players Do It'.
Its full of slurs and other lip-building exercises. I think this should help you out.
Good Luck!!!!

Without seeing you play, it is difficult to offer advice, but I shall make some guesses..
Euph1 has recommended a book, which is very good - but it sounds like your lips need strengthening.
1) A lot of new players try to blow too hard when attempting these higher notes. Relax a bit. Keep your lips tight, but don't blow any harder.
2) Are you supporting your breath from your diaghram? If not, you will have very little control.
3) Take the mouthpiece of the trumpet and play it on it's own. Try to reach that elusive note just using your emboucher (you'll need a piano or something to help you find the note).
4) Once you've got the hang of these, put your instrument together again, and play a C major scale, but don't stop at C2. Move onto the D2 and hold it............. for as long as you can.
5) Next, try playing C-D-C-D-C-D-C-D-C-D-C-D-C-D-C, and then C-D-E-D-C-D-E-D-C-D-E etc.
Let us know how you get on.

How long have you been playing? It takes quite a bit of time to build up the muscles, and forcing too soon can be counter productive.
Of course a teacher could help......
