I really enjoy listening ( and playing smile.gif ) 'mood' music because it is easy on the ear and 'mood' pieces are great crowd pleasers. I think mood music is music that really brings out emotions wen you listen to it. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to find really good pieces of mood music so I have decided to list some of my favourites smile.gif

Please feel free to list your own aswell biggrin.gif

Le onde by Ludovico Einaudi

The Mad World theme ( you can find the score on pianothemes.com )

Chopin nocturne in c# minor

Beethoven: Sonata 13 Op27, No1: Eb, 2nd mvt: ( Can be listened to on music-scores.com )

Traumerei by Schumann

Jupiter ( from 'the planets ) by Holst

'Hobbits' from The Lord of The Rings biggrin.gif

Scriabin etude opus 8-12 in d#minor ( really angry ive also thought )

The swan by Saint-Saens

Elegie by Rachmaninoff

And of course the moonlight sonata smile.gif

Remember to tell everyone your own favs! happy.gif
Scaramouche
Einaudi most definitely... wub.gif

Wow archie, i think i have too many too list ....... one of my favourites to listen to is the violin concerto by Barber (i have two recordings, one for violin of course and one which i also have transcribed for flute and orchestra biggrin.gif )

Recently i've been playing selected themes from Pirates of the Caribbean with my orchestra, and i have to say, even at my age, i've wanted to shout "ship ahoy" and shake my cutlass blush.gif ....... so i have to put that in my mood music selection too laugh.gif

Not sure about the term 'mood music', it reminds me of those Chill with Rachmaninov/Debussy/Satie etc or Classical Chillout Cds. The Only composition that comes to mind entitled Moods is Griegs last book of piano compositions, but there must be others. I think the amount of music which reflects the range of moods and emotions is just too vast to comprehend.

A lot of Scriabin does my melon in, but this is amazing. It actually makes sense, and doesn't have random tangents off it like a lot of Mr S's music does.

Scriabin is one of the Greats, he wrote some of my all time favourite pieces.... and basically everyones entitled to my opinion.

Mood music makes me think of agricultural shows . . .
freda_bloogs
Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (especially the 18th).
Muddy Paws
My teacher's been on at me a lot lately to find the emotion in whatever I play. Must admit I find it much easier with Romantic/Modern stuff than Baroque/Classical !

At the moment, my favourite is Albeniz's "Cordoba" as it reminds me of driving through Spain.
Andromeda_Aiken
Schindler's List Theme! That always succeeds in giving me sad thoughts! Lol.

*loves* That piece is amazing.

Epilogue, Eternity, Calm Lands, 1000 Words, Akagi Party, Most of the pieces from the Final Fantasy X2 Piano Collections album are fantastic for relaxation and are pretty purdy too. smile.gif

And of course, Einaudi. biggrin.gif I so need to *squee* at the moment ... I found today that I have money to spare to *finally* go buy Una Mattina. That book helped me relax through exams so much; I swear I've gotten it from the library about 6 times already ... now I can go buy my own. ph34r.gif laugh.gif

Scaramouche
Una Mattina - yum, going to go and play it now, try to get rid of my stress levels biggrin.gif. I love Leo.
violin-ann
Cinema paradiso by Josh Groban for listening and to chill out with biggrin.gif

To chill out with, I play Brahms' Rhapsody in G minor. Not calming music to most, but certainly to me! (also reduces my anger levels quite a lot) Or any other Brahms for that matter.

Einuadi books have now been stolen by brother, so that has made them less relaxing, as he sight reads them (badly!) (but I take them back for pleasing to the ear "background, wallpaper music" for functions requiring such things)
