I've been practicing the first page of Tarantella Op.23 by Squire and I cant get the double stops half way down the page to sound even, the open D always seems to sound much louder than the tune on the A string. I've been doing heaps of double stop exercises out of method for cello vol.3 but they are a bit easier as they dont really use open stings - I think that is the problem... wacko.gif Any help appreciated, a part from that, I'm quite chuffed as to how its sounding so far, I'm really into this cello playing now, I've been practicing for about 6 hours a day since I got it last wednesday!!

Can't do double stops after a week of teaching yourself cello. Tut Tut.

It's probably just a case of needing to have played the instrument about twice as long.

Just guessing here but I think I remember you are a violinist trying out cello so -

check your bow hold,
think in terms of using arm weight and gravity rather than too much finger pressure,
check your arm position (perhaps elbow a little higher to get a bit more volume from the A string - imagine that a drop of water could run all the way down your arm from shoulder to finger tips without forming a pool at the elbow or wrist)
check the instrument isn't too upright so you get more help from gravity on the bow.

try and play it like this guy

but not like this guy

Yes she's pretty good, especially like the clarity of the runs. Very pro video production as well

Shame nobody on youtube can get the treble clef bit in tune, even the guy with the harpist.
