I've been taking jazz lessons once a week during school days for 2 years. But I've always slacked off... although jazz is AMAZING to me. I want to take the jazz gr.1, but my jazz teacher have no idea what abrsm is! Only my classical teacher knows. So, what exactly do I have to know in order to take jazz gr.1? I'm wondering if I need to improvise and know different scales... things I wouldn't normally know as a classical pianist. happy.gif

Try looking here: ABRSM Jazz Piano. It has the syllabus, the available publications etc. Should be what you want to know.

I haven't taken jazz piano exams, but my experience of jazz flute has been very positive.

The "Jazz Piano From Scratch" book is very good.
