Hi everyone,

I just wonder whether there is any rules for chord progression IV to I or IVb to I? As for IVc to I, the 6th note from the bass falls to the 5yh, and the 4th note from the bass falls to the 3rd. Is the same rules applies for IV to I and (or) IVb to I?

Anyone advice will be very much appreciated.smile.gif

Even if your are only putting in chord symbols the choice of chords/inversions should ensure that you don't break any of the harmony rules you would apply to the figured bass section.
This means avoiding consecutive perfect 5ths and octaveswhic can be largely done by having the bass line in contrary motion with the melody. especially with stepwise movement.
