I've just finished my A levels (hooray!), and decided that now that horror is over I want to start working towards my grade 8 again. However, I read on the AB website that the syllabus is due to change next year, so I'd have to take the exam by next February/March, and i don't think I'll be ready by then, but I don't want to learn the pieces only to have to change them. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
Jess

Tenuous on topic link - glad the scales will be the same. Are you going to uni - will this affect gr 8 plans? (new teacher?)
Off topic - Hm, they were alright. Hopefully I've got my As

The scales are unlikely to change much I should think. The new syllabus lists should be out soon - I think - would it be feasible to wait, and just work on other repertoire? Then you have more time to look at pieces, make decisions, and work towards the exam, without feeling you have to rush for the Easter session.

Sarah-flute- that sounds like a very good idea, thank you! Hopefully the new syllabus will be out soon and i can have a look at it.
nicki- yes, hopefully I'll be going to Sheffield (depending on results...) so I'll have to have another teacher. The viola sectional tutor at my orchestra said I shouldn't bother trying to do grade 8 at uni as most uni students are too lazy to do it!!

Mm, I don't know! Only you know whether you'd be motivated enough to do it. I'm going to continue having flute lessons.

You should be able to pick it up at your local music shop. My local one does them and I'll be there ASAP afterwards to get my copy. It's only a week away.
I don't suppose it will change hugley esp considering it's viola and there's at least a little less to chose from than for some other instruments!!

Maybe a different movement of the same concerto as this time, or a different bit a a cello suite.
