Hi,
I'm currently working through grade 6 theory (ABRSM) on my own and need some help with the composition section. The aspect I have trouble with is modulating from one key to another.

For grade 6, there are 3 possible modulations in either major or minor keys...to the dominant, subdominant and relative minor (or major). I was wondering whether these modulations could be written down as a four-bar sequence so that I can use them as a template.

Any advise or greater understanding would be much appreciated

Thanks
sbhoa
What you want is a pivot chord... one which is common to the original key and the one you are modulating to.
You can also introduce the accidental(s) needed to make the change a few bars in advance, maybe as passing notes at first.
The trouble with a template is that each melody will be different.
I found that the modulation could happen at various point in the melody, not always in the same place.
