We have a local OXFAM music shop, and a while back my husband left a request with them to let him know if they got any Billy Mayerl piano music. After a bit he got a notification that they had a copy of Fireside Fusiliers and duly collected it. Alas it turned out to be only the cover, with pages 2 and 7 inside. If anyone has a complete copy please could they PM me? I'm hoping to find someone who could photocopy or scan the rest of the music for us. I'm comfortable that this constitutes "fair use" in Copyright terms, as we have the original printed outer pages which were bought in good faith, and the amount I'm asking for doesn't amount to a "performable whole", which certainly used to be a phrase included in the Fair Use Guidelines, though I haven't read them recently.

Sorry I can't help dacap. What a horrible surprise! Just wanted to say I love Billy Mayerl too. I have a lovely book called Jazz Master - Billy Mayerl but I'm afraid it doesn't have your piece in it. He is VERY difficult!

I have a number of Billy Mayerl pieces here (and also a few recordings - original 78rpm's!) which I "inherited" from earlier generations of my family.

Fireside Fusiliers isn't one that I recall so there probably isn't a copy of that particular piece amongst them but I'll have a look. Marigold was probably his most famous piece. I bought a new copy from the local music shop to replace the 1920's vintage copy here (which had seen better days) but that's about all I've found.

It may be worth looking in a main city library as I remember seeing some of his music among the scores in probably Nottingham or Sheffield. I'll have another look when I go into Nottingham next weekend if I remember.

I can play some of his pieces but probably (well, ok, definitely!) somewhat slower than the pace it goes at on his own recordings. I've heard others play it in recitals (on the radio) but nothing matches the originals.

Thanks. I don't remember hearing the title either before this (partial) copy turned up. It was published in 1943.

Why didn't I think of that? I wonder if our nearest music library has its catalogue on line as I don't often visit it.

He makes it all sound so easy. A professional, in other words!

Yes I've got it, and have performed it. I'm fairly sure I've also got a copy of Billy's own recording of it. The middle section is tricky and I had to move notes between the hands. It's fast!! Full of long-distance stride-type LH arm work, so it's not for the faint-hearted. Email me if you're still interested in getting your lost pages.
