Yep, it's the age-old problem of getting one's mouthpiece stuck! >> I need it out before Sunday as I have a gig, and I can't get to any shops on Saturday as I'm out gigging on keyboard...

Anyone have any ideas? It's really urgent!! sad.gif

i've heard that some brass players get their mouthpiece out with a door..... wacko.gif sounds strange, but it works. Place mouthpiece in crack of door and twist and it should come loose.

(someone else could probably explain it better to you).

Yeah I actually tried that about 15 mins ago lol - but didn't work sad.gif
I'll try again in a minute!

sorry, I can't think of anything else sad.gif

Try a music shop: they have tools to specially remove mouthpieces.

There are ways of doing it without going, but it can damage the lead pipe. I don't recommend it.

Do you really need to get it out before the gig? Surley you cna play with it in? tongue.gif

Have you tried wrapping a cloth dipped in hot water around the mouthpiece receiver? It might expand it sufficiently to release the mouthpiece. If your trumpet is lacquered though, too much heat might damage the finish.

Well, mcm beat me to it, cos that was the sort of advice I was going to give, having experienced similar problems with all sorts of equipment.

What works best is to use the principle of cold=contract, hot=expand. This has always worked for me. Even with stuck clarinet joints!

Soak some tissues in ice cold water and stick them down the MP and around it. Leave 5 mins and repeat with fresh ice-cold tissues. Boil kettle.

After 5 mins, hold the 'tight' bit of the tube over the steam for 30 seconds, then twist the MP out.

If you're worried about the laquer, use hot tissues around the tube. Should work!

ive got one of them mouthpiece remover thingies......i bought it for exactly the same sort of reason as you. i needed my mouthpiece out as i was a doing a charity concert sort of thing, and me and some others were going to do a tune buzzing on our mouthpieces"!!!!

I know this may sound contraversial..

A tuba player used his bigger mouthpiece to knock the my stuck french horn one out... he just struck it a few times away from the instrument hitting the underside of the rim... they are made of strong enough material not to be damaged.

I had that problem many years back, but as someone just said, try bashing it with another mouthpice. Put a cloth or something like that over if your worried about scratches etc. (when you bash it you dont have to go crazy lol)

Tapping gently with a hide hammer or the hot/cold method, but NOT, as I found out one of my pupil's dads had done, use molegrips!! blink.gif
