Help!

I have my grade 5 theory exam on saturday and still cant get my head round intervals. I can never work out whether something is minor or diminshed???

It has been expained to me a hundred times, and it makes perfect sence, but when I get to actually working it out I am stumped!!

Can anyone help???

Minor is a semitone smaller than major
Diminished is a semitone smaller than minor or perfect.

sorry, i'm not brilliant at intervals so can't help really, but sbhoa has sort of told you about them anyway .

ant lee, I couldn't get my head round intervals either and I'm only doing G3 But I got some helpful advice in this thread on the basics of intervals, so what sbhoa has said here makes sense to me, even though I haven't yet got on to diminished intervals. So if it still doesn't make sense, have a look at the linked thread to go back to basics and see if that helps.

Do you have the pink AB guide to music theory? The section on intervals in there is good. Good luck - i'm doing my grade 5 on saturday too!

I'm not sure really. Cam eout of there feeling quite good about it, but thats getting worse as time goes on. Just have to wait and see I guess!!!
