Hi all

Have been playing guitar for a couple of years, but only for fun, have just been playing chords though and would like to be able to play indiviual notes etc, so I can go in for some grades. Can anyone recommend any descent books that outlines the basics, but progresses quite quickly?

I can read music as I play four other instruments, but just wanted to progress on the guitar a bit more too.

Hope you can help

If you have acrobat reader, you can download and print Giuliani's Op 30 (32 easy pieces), from http://www.eythorsson.com/.
Also a load of other stuff on there for the more advanced players if you click on the sheet music link

Yes you must look at this book, its really really useful. The final advanced pieces will take you up to grade 6ish standard. Also check out the ABRSM syllabus, lots of fun stuff their too, however avoid 'Travelling in Style' its so boring!

Nice link! Its what we could do more of, free downloadable music!
joyjoy
Yes, i agree tenorclef! more downloadable music.

Just one question though....why do they have 'h' instead of the note 'b'? Is it just their method?

Fletch - the download is great....however I am a bit confused on what the 'm' 'i' and 'p' means though...appears further into the method. Anyone know what I'm talking about and can help i would appreciate it. it's above the letters for the m and i and below the letters for the p i think. does the p mean plucked? anyway...hope someone can help

thanks

(P) Pulgar = Thumb
(I) Indice = Fore Finger
(M) Medio = Middle Finger
(A) Anular = Ring Finger

I think is what you are asking about

I just had to add I ahve recently passed my grade 5 classical.......working on 6 now smile.gif
Fletch
Like Saedi1, I just passed the grade 5, got the results last week.
I was actually quite surprised that I passed, because I had a nightmare of an exam. But hey! a pass is a pass.
Although it was the lowest mark I have ever had (113), I will take it, and hopefully learn from the bad experience of everything going pear shaped.
No, I don't play any other instruments.
It took me 41 years to have a go at this one.
TenorClef
Many congrats on pasing your grade 5 Fletch, some of the grade 6 pieces are not so a stretch from grade 5. I have some recommended pieces if you do the next grade.
Fletch
I most certainly will be doing grade 6.
Just got the theory to get through first.
Only piece I know I will be doing for certain is List B no 7 which is Tarrega's "Pepita". I haven't really seen any of the pieces from the other lists, but I have a few of the pieces from list B (Sor & Carcassi).
I am familiar with (list C) Rodrigo Riera's other pieces. I did "Monotonia" as a grade 4 piece and can also play "Nostalgia" from memory but I haven't seen "Valse".

All recommendations will be gladly recieved biggrin.gif
