One of my piano students is about Grade 2 standard. I would like to have her do some jazzy pieces. As many people on this forum have mentioned good things about Oxford's Piano Time series, I am thinking of giving the jazz books a try.

I understand that the jazz books are good for students ranging from beginner to Grade 3 level. I also know that both the Piano Time Jazz and the new Piano Time Jazz Duets come in two volumes. How hard are the pieces in Volume 2? Would they suit a Grade 2 pupil?

I have considered books by Mike Cornick and Christopher Norton; however, I don't think they are as readily available as the Oxford series in the U.S.

I haven't used the jazz duets, so can't comment on those, but PT Jazz book 1 is a book that I give to pre-grade one pupils in some cases. There might be one or two pieces that are around grade 2. On the whole though I'd reckon it's too easy for a grade 2 -er. Working from memory, book 2 is probably around grade 2.
