Yes, we should make this the offical thread biggrin.gif
What type of harp(s) do you have? harp.gif
sarah-flute
Peter Brough 34 string clarsach.

18th birthday gift from most of my family ohmy.gif

I don't do it justice sad.gif
Jaunty Angle
How much do Harps cost? [Stupidly vague question, I apologise].
sarah-flute
Between £150 and £20,000+ (approx.)

Vague enough answer? laugh.gif

Depends what you want and how much you're willing to spend.

You can buy a Harpsicle for about $300.

A concert grand could set you back £20 grand or maybe more... I once played on a harp that was worth about £20K and that was about 15 years ago - you do the maths! ohmy.gif
Jaunty Angle
I'll give you 50p for one.

I have a Pilgrim Clarsach, 34 string maple with some nice knot work down the front. It cost me about £2200 brand new, with the bag. It's a beauty, sounds lovely. However, my tutor recently acquired an Eos:

http://www.telynauteifi.co.uk/eos_celtic_harp.shtml

These are about £200 cheaper, but are a lot heavier. However, it does sound incredible, especially when played by a professional harpist. I'm very tempted to trade my pilgrim in against one.

*Pianola*
I play a black Salvi Symphony. Salvi don't make this model anymore, but a similar model would be over £10,000 new.

I have a Pilgrim clarsach too. I tried out the Eos at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival and was incredibly impressed with it, not sure if I'd trade though...

I play folk harp, I have a 30 string (I think) table harp which I love to pieces. Haven't been playing that long, really lacking in time, but I love playing when I get the chance, especially playing with other people.

Peter Brough 34 string clarsach.

Lucky you party1.gif My 13 year old daughter would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a Peter Brough clarsach. She's tried them at the Edinburgh Harp Festival. A few years ago we were on holiday in Devon and arranged to go to his house and see harps there. An amazing place, set on a remote hillside. After looking at harps we all went out into the garden and sat in the sun chatting, sitting on the grass in the middle of a double ring of rowan trees. A very elemental feel to that garden - I remember that and our wandering conversation more than the harps!

Since then we're saving, but since she already has a perfectly good Pilgrim clarsach, and many other claims on limited cash, it'll probably have to be the 18th birthday present!

Hmm, I think you'd call your's a student harp.

(mine has 46 strings, one less than the grand concert harps)

Incidentally, I've just arrived home after doing my grade 6 harp exam. I think it went o.k, one or two slips on the pieces though. fingersCrossed.gif
(I'm about to post a thread about it on the Adult learners.)

Yes, very lucky! It's a beautiful instrument and it's a great shame I am so rubbish at it.

It's Brough harp number 18 and is just over 10 years old, now worth about twice as much at least ph34r.gif as it was bought for ohmy.gif

I just thought you might be interested in these.

They are recordings I did for a welsh t.v music programme; the first one was done a couple of years ago when I had my Salvi Orchestra and the other two were done a couple of weeks ago with my Salvi Symphony.

The second two won't load for me either, demands I instal some software or other. However, the Youtube clip is fantastic!!

Is everyone coming to Cardiff in June/July for the European Harp Symposium going on in and around the Wales Millenium Centre?

http://www.europeanharpsymposium.eu/

The free gig in the foyer, 100 harps all playing at once, sounds incredible.

As for me personally, I have been sorely tempted today to ditch my Pilgrim Clarsach for a 47 string pedal harp. Man, the sound is incredible! Quite a difference, even with my weedy playing. The main problem is justifying to my parter that we need a £10k harp in the house. blink.gif
