The tambourine makes quite a racket and it probably feels very loud to you compared with the flute, especially if you're playing it on your own. On the other hand, it's not nearly as loud as other percussion instruments - the triangle is much more piercing, and if you ever get to stand next to someone playing drum kit or timpani you'll have a new definition of what the word "loud" means
It will be better once you're in the band. In fact you might find that the others ask you to play louder (which is the best thing anyone can ever say to a percussionist).
hi thanks for that as usual i am doubting myself i will practise over the weekend and pop over and see the band member that lives round the corner from me to see what he thinks
i am doing this partly to get over my fear of performing and to improve my timing really into jertho tull this week so flute might happen in the band too
