Let me know how the rest of you got on, particuarly Grade 8ers!

Hey, well done! Debussy is a hard one to do. Very impressed with the sight reading. I remember when i got my Grade 8 results, I was SO SO happy! I couldn't believe it at that time because I was in the middle of school exams and was well at all so I was very disappointed after the exam.... till I got my results!

But nevertheless, CONGRATS again. G8 is a very big achievement.

Got my Grade 5 result, eventually!!! It's kind of bad: 117. Edit: Sorry, but 117 is bad for me, and I've been practising ever so ever so hard...
My teacher + head of music both expected a distinction but apparently (well, you can never prove it, can you?) she marked all the pianists down. Her comments don't match up with her marks. But anyway, I'm a little shocked / upset. I really at least wanted a mid merit level. sad.gif
But on the positive side, I did pass.
Be back with the details soon...
Wobby
Congratulations both of you! smile.gif

Wow, that's asking alot. If I could read the dreadful handwriting of the examiner, then there would have been a possibility of posting the comments.

EDIT - they are now posted on a seperate thread. (managed to decipher it somehow).

Well done all! laugh.gif

Thanks,
I'll put down some of the comments.

Grade 5 Piano.
Les Carillons: 19/30 (I FAILED THIS PIECE ph34r.gif ohmy.gif )
Taken at a brisk tempo with some idea of the style though a slower speed would have benefited. The quaver passages were *unreadable word - something like skiniped or skimped, definitely not skipped* disturbing the rhythmic caution and accuracy. sad.gif

Study in Ab: 23/30
Some idea of the lyricism and dynamic details were often overdone for the style. (I ask you, does she want me to play it with no feeling at all or something?)

New Orleans Nightfall: 25/30
The pulse was well judged and contrast well managed. The main theme was clearly profiled though the dynamics were too exaggerated in the final section particularly.

Scales: 17/21
Patterns well known.

Sight reading: 18/21
Mainly well read.

Aural tests: 15/18
A good reply in all but some errors in A.

Total: 117

Additional comments: Some encouraging signs in the playing today. Les Carillons denied you an overall merit.

MY VIEW: I don't like her! But time to move on

I soooo hate music examiners' writing!! I mean, you can't read half of it, it's all scribbly!!! Does anyone know what I mean, or is it just the examiners that I get tongue.gif

Well can someone interpret my brother's general comment please:
"...now you can afford to relax and let the music do the talking"

EH?? mellow.gif

I would take it to mean something like it's obvious that he put a lot of effort into his exam music and plays well but needs to worry less about technical things to get a better musical sound.
pianoboe
I think perhaps sometimes examiners comments are inappropriate (like some of mine this time) but mostly they're constructive. I'm trying to be positive...
sarah-flute
Why do you think the comments in your exam were inappropriate, pianoboe?
pianoboe
Ooh that sounds really weird now looking back. May have to change it. My bad! ph34r.gif
I guess not inappropriate but just weird - about the dynamics, I thought I didn't put enough feeling and dynamics in, not too much...
Sorry.
