hiya everyone. This is going to sound really dumb (coz im only a begginner in this site and am new to it all) but how do u knoq ur grade? Do u get it when u have an exam or get it from a teacher. And if u get it from an exam, do u have to go to music school or get a home teacher.
Cheers for reading this!

The grades are exams run by the ABRSM , Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (the same people that run this site). The exams start from grade 1 and go up to grade 8 and then there are diplomas after grade 8 (there's also a thing called the prep test that can be done before grade one). Most people study with a private teacher to work towards the exams (alongside playing other pieces as well).
One small catch, people tend to say 'I'm on grade 4', or 'I'm grade 4 standard' as soon as they've done grade 3 so in most cases to find out what exam they've done you need to subtract one!

But you don't have to take exams unless you want to.
There are many really good players who have never taken exams.
