Yes, I'm on another hunt for a suitable piece to play at a concert... As I don't have a teacher and the only solo playing I do really is at Forums events, I find I tend to choose my repertoire accordingly

I have quite a lot of music but most of it is either too hard for me or not very inspiring. I'm probably looking around the grade 5/6 mark...

Any ideas welcome... biggrin.gif

Would this be for viola?

If you want I could send you lists of pieces that have been set for grade 5 and grade 6 over the years by the various examining boards. There should be some pieces in them that would be suitable. The lists aren't that long as the same pieces keep appearing in different years.

Hi Willobie, just thinking about it, I remember playing a very nice Albeniz Tango for a Grade 5 viola exam some years ago. If you're still looking for suggestions, I remember it being a lovely piece to play (lots of expressive scope and latin rhythms but not too difficult)

It came in a collection from a French music publisher (can't remember name of publisher) called L'Alto Classique, which had lots of similar-ish level short pieces for viola (Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Rimsky-Korsakov and others). It might be a bit below Grade 6 standard though

Thank you - I think I have that book so I'll have a look... smile.gif
