What a great clip! And love the instrument!

organgrinder
Impresive but yet odd at the same time!!!
sarah-flute
Have a look at the other clips (same user)... history of music - great stuff! laugh.gif

PS.... I think I know the violist............. laugh.gif

edit: just done some research and I'm almost certain that Graham is the Graham of the same name who was at my school and whose little brother I was in GCSE and A Level music with... hehe. Cool.

We all enjoyed this clip!

Isn't it brilliant! But will somebody please tell me what the piece is after "In the Mood" at about 3 mins 33 secs - it's a really well known piece but my mind has gone blank and it's really annoying me!

sarah-flute
New York New York

I only got it because I was humming it in my head, it's the introduction-y bit directly before "Start spreading the news..."

I think!

Watching it again, I'm almost totally certain the violist is my schoolfriend's big brother... how random!

Yes you're quite right, thank you!

Great video, definitely one too add to my favourites list! biggrin.gif

Very, very clever - both Bolero and History clips. Do my eyes deceive me or do the instruments have 5 strings? Any string player out there tell me what they'd be tuned to please?

Thanks for posting - really good clips smile.gif

One of them has six strings!

The five string ones usually add on a lower string - for example, a five string violin would be tuned C, G, D, A, E - like a hybrid between a viola and a violin.

Allan
sarah-flute
1 5 string violin, 1 5 string viola, 1 6 string violin, 1 5 string cello.

I think... blink.gif

By the way - can anyone fill gaps or correct/add detail to the list of "what I heard"? I'm curious to know how much I got right!

Greensleeves - Henry VIII
I think - THINK - this next is Handel's Hallelujah Chorus
A snippet from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart
Part of Beethoven's 9th Symphony (Ode to Joy)
William Tell Overture - Rossini(??)
Nessun Dorma (Verdi?) - Puccini (Turandot)
Bach/Gounod Prelude/Ave Maria
Beethoven 5th Symph - opening
Also Sprach Zarathustra AKA 2001 Space Odyssey (Strauss)
(something else in here?)
The Can-Can - not sure who wrote it, it appears in Orpheus in the Underworld by ** Gluck Offenbach (thanks skylark!) ** but don't know if he wrote it
Toreador's song from Carmen - Bizet
One of the Hungarian dances - Brahms
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Caisse Noissette -Tchaikovsky
In the Hall of the Mountain King - Grieg
(not sure but think the second half of it may have Rimsky Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee under it - or it may be something entirely different - sounds like it could be though...) - morphs into a James Bond theme(?) then back to the Grieg
Don't know if the next bit is from something, but it goes into The Entertainer by Scot Joplin
Singing in the Rain - don't know who wrote it, cleverly played over the top of Doh a Deer from The Sound Of Music - I don't know the composer off the top of my head. ** Richard Rodgers **
There's No Business Like Showbusiness - don't know who wrote it!
Summertime - Gershwin
In The Mood - Glenn Miller
Intro to New York, New York
Hound Dog - Elvis
The next bit (between the end of Elvis and the "wolf whistle") sounds like the intro to Pretty Woman
I can't work out what the next song is, then it goes onto:
Yesterday - The Beatles
I Feel Good - just a snatch
Staying Alive - the Beegees
Money Money Money - Abba
Another One Bites The Dust
The bit that sounds like a guitar solo - I recognise it but can't place it, this goes for the bit after as well!!
** Layla, I'm confidently assured, plus possibly something else? **
** Billie Jean by Michael Jackson is in here somewhere **
** some more famous guitar stuff ** Smoke on the water - Deep Purple (Sarah can't read....)
"Jaws" theme music
"Pyscho" theme music
Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner (very fast and not at all convinced I am right...)
Theme from Dallas or Dynasty - some 80s American soap opera anyway...
Rule Brittania
Sailor's Hornpipe - I forget the composer ph34r.gif but the one they play on the last night of the Proms.
I think one of the Pomp and Circumstance marches by Elgar? - another Proms piece... and don't know if there's anything else in the last mad dash, but that's the end. ** possibly some Lohengrin wedding music **
skylark
Brilliant piece of work, Sarah, thank you biggrin.gif

Having listened to it again with your list, brilliant is a bit of an understatement biggrin.gif RESPECT!!!! biggrin.gif

Nessun Dorma is from Puccini's Turandot

Can-can - Offenbach, Orpheus in the Underworld

Sound of Music - Richard Rodgers

Definitely Pretty Woman

I can't place the bits after "Another one bites the dust" either - hopefully somebody will!
sarah-flute
If you spot any errors or details I missed please correct me - not at all certain about some of them!

Offenbach! THANK YOU! I knew that was wrong, but I knew Gluck had written an Orpheo and I gave up trying to work out why it didn't seem right!!
earplugs
After another one bites the dust there is a very well known rock guitar bit I can't name but somebody will. Then a snippet of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson then another equally well known rock guitar bit I can't name before Jaws comes in I think.
katyjay
Pretty sure the "guitar" bit was Layla. Interspersed with Billie Jean.

The theme tune was Dallas

Thought I got part of the Lohengrin wedding music at the end.
earplugs
Of course Layla!!! before Billie Jean. Not sure it isn't something else after though. You know "Dun Dun Daaa, Dun Dun Da Daaa, Dun Dun Daaa Dun Daaaa.

It's fun picking out the recognisable bits... I'm amazed how much they have managed to crowbar in there!

I've added all corrections, details, additions and amendments, if anyone has any more to add... maybe I'm a wee bit sad but I find it rather entertaining and fascinating trying to figure it out.

I definitely recognise some of those guitar riffs....

Misterjay tells me it's Smoke On The Water, which he also informs me is Deep Purple's equivalent of the Charlie Wilson Blues. wink.gif

... but I've found this one from www.musicroom.com:

It's £1199. I think I'd better stop looking .... ph34r.gif sad.gif

Don't see why a cello should cost ten times more than a violin < mega sulk >

I've got one biggrin.gif I got it seven years ago when it didn't cost quite that much. It is utterly gorgeous to look at. The real shame is that it's probably only been played for about seven hours in those seven years so really it's just a very elegant paperweight ohmy.gif My head says I should find it to a home where it will find use, my heart doesn't want to let go being a 'cellist'... unsure.gif

I'm wandering wildly off-topic - so back to the subject: the link was great

No, I'm not - I don't travel far or well (plus I've only been on the forums here for two weeks!)
However, I do have a few piccies of it that I took not too long ago. I'll dig them out and post them up on a new thread for you; might manage it tomorrow night but probably Thursday. Should give you an idea of the colour and general loveliness biggrin.gif
