Full Version: Suzuki "i Can Read Music"

I bought a job lot of beginners/easy cello music from e-bay. One of the things was the first volume of a Suzuki book called "I can read music." A couple of weeks ago I got my daughter to start playing through it to try and give her some confidence in sight-reading. She loves it and it is already having a positive effect on her ability to just sit down and play something. (For those who don't know it it has pitch only on the left hand page - everything is written in crotchets - and rhythm only on the right hand page with everything to be played on the open D string).

On the back cover it says there is a second volume and I wondered if anyone could tell me what it has in it. I can't find it for sale on any of the UK based web music shops and so would have to order it from the States.

I don't know these books, but one alternative might be the Paul Harris "Improve your Sight Reading" series. They have some separate rhythm excercises to play or clap. They are oriented towards the grade system in terms of the keys they use in each book and the complexity. The tunes might perhaps be a bit dull for a young child though.

Keri there's a book 2 on the British suzuki publications list - here http://www.britishsuzuki.org.uk/rpmServer/...list%202006.doc

It's on page 3 in about the middle of the list.

Thanks for the link. I'll just have to make sure they will post abroad. I had tried musicroom and various other web-based shops and they only had the first volume.

I have seen the Paul Harris Books but they go faster than the Suzuki one and what I was really interested in was the pitch reading exercices as my daughter is better with rhythm than pitch.

They probably will - but is there not perhaps a French suzuki?

If you don't have any luck, let me know. I was thinking of ordering them for my daughter, and would be happy to post a copy to you. (Beware - my posting skills are a bit substandard!)

There is indeed a French Suzuki society:

Hope it's of some use.
