My cello, a seventeenth century Bavarian instrument, has not been played much for years. It was my student instrument for many years and had belonged to my paternal grandmother before that. It has a fantastic tone when played gently and it really needs someone to look after it and restore it to its former baroque glory, having been modernised over the years. (fingerboard etc) It would make a super instrument if it was set up as when it was made. What should I do with it? I do not really have funds to get the work done myself, and would like to sell it to a restorer but how do I find one please?

You could place an advert in The Strad, or alternatively contact specialist dealers who may know of people (even themselves) who might like to purchase it with the aim of restoring the cello to its former Baroque glory.

I know Cardiff Violins, in obviously, Cardiff sell quite a few baroque instruments. It'd probably be worth giving them a ring and see if they'd like to purchase it off you and then restore it themselves. I can't remember what their number is but you could probably find it on the net.
